P for Pippi (A to Z challege)

As a headstrong little girl, Pippi was my heroine. I longed to live in a castle with a horse and a monkey, and live life on my own terms. So what if the plot was weak? The object of the story was to portray a way of life that many girls yearned to live. Her name made quite a good mantra, when recited while avoiding cracks in neighborhood sidewalks. Inside every child is a lighthearted rebel, just like Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraim's Daughter Longstocking.

Have a wonderful weekend my friends,
Evalina

  1. My favourite Pippi story is the one where she see and advert which asks "Are you troubled by freckles?". She marches into the chemist and just says "No" to the bemusement of the chemist! Because of course, Pippi has lots of freckles, but they don't trouble her, she likes them.

  5. I used to like these books. Not having any restrictions (ie parents) definitely appeals to kids.

  6. I loved the book! I don't think I ever saw the screen adaptation. My favorite part was the cupboard with all the tiny drawers with treasures in them. I always wanted one of those :D

  8. Oh, I loved Pippi Longstocking when I was a girl! My favorite thing she did was sleep with her feet on the pillows.

  9. Yes I loved Pippi too as a child - she was a real go-getter in life and was just as good as any boy (and as I was much more of a tom boy I think this appealed a lot). A great choice for your P post :)

  12. I think it was because I was a young boy when one of the movies came out I hated the character! But age and wisdom (sure!) have happened since and I see what a great character she is.

  13. I loved her movies when I was a little girl. I was madly jealous of her spotted horse.

  14. I love reading your post and all the comments! As a Swede myself, I grew up with Astrid Lindgren's (the author) voice reading all of her wonderful stories aloud on the radio, or my parents reading her stories to me. It is amazing to see what an impact Pippi had just not only in Sweden but all over the world:)

  15. Pippi is one of the best girl characters ever created in children's literature. And I can't say how often I have read her books - and not only as a child :)
